An earthquake occurred in the Pacific Ocean, northeast of Tokyo, at
5.46 this morning.

Coordinates:
lat 38 n 322
long 142 e 369

First city affected by the tsunami was Sendai, Japan.

Coordinates:
lat 38 n 15
long 140 e 53

(There were two cities by the name Sendai in Japan, I have chosen the
one closest to the earthquake center.)

Looking at the chart there seem to be nothing in particular that
stands out, at least not at a first glance. Possibly Uranus within
minutes of the Aries Point, but that is all I can see.

It is tempting, therefore, to associate it with the up and coming
Supermoon, next Friday.

Well, well, Mr Moderator, local time was 2.46 *P.M.* Okay?

As expected, scientists of all kinds are rallying to assure us that no
supermoon could possibly be connected to the quake and the tsunami. I
found one dissenting voice, however:

From a purely astrological viewpoint I still think the event chart
does not say much, though it might give more if progressed. Comparing
the event chart with the charts for Japan, Sendai or Tokyo (which is
the capital, right?) should also be informative. I'll dig and see if I
can find any of these.

I have not checked the charts for Japan, Sendai or Tokyo (which is
only capital de facto, status is somewhat unclear). The chart for the
New Moon held nothing that struck me as significant. Progressing the
event chart back to the New Moon was a little bit interesting, as the
first degree Gemini Moon went back to last degree Taurus, from where
it partile-sextiled Uranus (high buildings, nuclear plants) and
partile-squared Neptune (earthquakes). The Moon does square Neptune
every month, even twice, but it generally does not at the same time
sextile Uranus. If we should stay on our earlier Regulus theme,
perhaps the simultaneous square to Regulus could point to a monarchy
being the target for the powers released, though I would say it is far-
fetched and neither moderns nor classicals would, I think, approve of
aspects between the Moon and a fixed star beyond at the most
oppositions.

Speaking of Regulus:

Japan being a monarchy, I realized I could check the chart of the
Emperor and see what I could find there. (I should have started there,
really, but didn't think of Japan being a monarchy until later.) The
Emperor has his natal Sun in the first degree of Capricorn and natal
Moon at 20 Pisces. In the progressed chart he has the Sun at 19
degrees Pisces.

The Sun of the event chart being at 20 Pisces 19, this might be it.
Three Luminaries conjoining in the water sign Pisces could be all the
simple trigger that a long overdue tsunami needed.

I don't know if you know this or not, but Japanese astrologer's use a
different chart for Japan than westerners use.... and, in my opinion,
the chart works better than the western chart.

Great, thanks! I shall look into this chart and see what it has to say
about the earthquake and the tsunami.

I did not mention it, but both Uranus and Neptune are in the course of
changing signs, Uranus doing it the very day of the tsunami (and
consequently at the same time as the nuclear plants were being
affected by the tsunami). Considering that Uranus is entering Aries,
we may consider it not only changing signs but entering a quite new
cycle of activity. From this perspective it is of interest to note the
effects of the tsunami, and the after-shocks, on nuclear power plants
in Japan. It is possible that when the immediate effects are over,
this will come to influence long-term policy of nuclear energy not
only in Japan, but worldwide. (The sign change being global.)

With Neptune moving into Pisces, we may perhaps see an increased
reliance on oil until it, too, starts a new cycle. Beyond these
tentative guesses, I shall not now dare trying to see further into the
future.
