Discussion:
Why I think antiscia are important

In a discussion elsewhere yesterday I mentioned that I rely quite a
lot upon antiscia, and find them important in charts. I promised to
elaborate, so I decided to write a post about it.

My primary focus, when it is not about Regulus, is upon the Luminaries
and their interactions. This includes the lunar nodes, the Part of
Fortune, Su/Mo-midpoint and what-have-you. If it relates to the
Luminaries, I'll look at it.

This interest was aroused even further when I discovered the
outstanding importance of the Sun and the Moon in my parents' charts,
and how these, progressed, could actually pinpoint my date of birth.
This made me look into other charts and how they interacted in
connection with family expansion.

Anyhow, what I have found about antiscia is that they are often
involved in ’genealogical’ matters. Jung's idea that husband and wife
should share solar and/or lunar placements (if with share we include
oppositions) can be extended to the timing of when they have
offspring. In fact, it may be that the lunisolar combination is more
about procreation than synastry in a romantic sense. It would make
sense, considering that the Sun and the Moon are the planets that are
mostly connected with our biology.

I have one particularly clear example with two parents who have their
Suns in contra-antiscion. Their son was born at Full Moon with his Sun
conjunct the father's Sun and his Moon in antiscion to the mother's
Sun. I could go on for pages about this example only, but for now this
is enough. One can see how the child is both a continuation of the
parents and a bond between them, or, perhaps, the bond between them
manifested. As they were together for many years before the child was
born this bond obviously (?) is not time-dependent.

In this example, I must add, the above contra-antiscion positions were
important positions in the horoscopes of grandparents also, making
these placements recurring over not only two but several generations,
on both the maternal and the paternal side.

In the discussion yesterday we were talking about the film directors
Ingmar Bergman and Woody Allen, the latter being a fan of the former.
I checked their charts and could immediately see that their natal Suns
were in contra-antiscion. I have up until now primarily considered
these connections in family affairs, but if one thinks of the
profession of these two men, they are both *creative*. The step from
artistic creativity to "biological creativity" (procreation) is
perhaps not so far. I guess both kinds would be fifth house matters,
so symbolically they are not that far apart.

One thing that can be noted about antiscia is that they are a feature of the tropical zodiac. To my knowledge, they are not used in Jyotish. As antiscia and contraantiscia relate to the CAN/CAP and ARI/LIB axes respectively, in the solstitial and equinoctial sense, they are also intimately related to the Aries Point.

I guess that if one would want to use them in sidereal astrology, one would have to convert positions, but it seems like one would introduce an alien animal into that astrology if one did so.
