Scorpio and Generations

Scorpio is ruled by Pluto; and Pluto is the generational significator. This means that the Scorpio of any generation is ruled by the sign of his generation and reflects the essence of his generation. And in order to understand any generation, one needs to consult the Scorpios.

The generation that's currently in their late teens and 20s has the Pluto in Scorpio. For these people, even those who are not Scorpios are going to have very Scorpio attitudes and character. We see this with the Slut Walk, Occupy Wallstreet, Femen, Kazantip, the emos, the revolts against oppression in Middle East, and any number of other things that these people are doing.

And as a Scorpio I say hurrah.

Each generation seeks to raise the next generation the way that they themselves would have wanted to be raised; but it usually does not work. That is because each generation is different. The Pluto in Cancer World War II generation raised their children in the security and structure in which they themselves would have wanted to be raised; but it did not work for their children, as their children had Pluto in Leo and wanted a freer and less rigid upbringing. The hippies then raised their children in the freedom and adventure that they themselves would have wanted to be raised, but it did not work for their children either as their children had Pluto in Virgo and wanted to be raised in a more structured environment. Whereas the original boomer idea would have been much more appropriate for the children and young teenagers today who have Pluto in Sagittarius and are by nature adventuresome; and of course the youth rebellion of which they had once been a part is highly appealing to today's Pluto in Scorpio youth.

One negative manifestation we've seen has been Pluto in Virgo gen-X'ers and Pluto in Cancer World War II generation ganging up together on Pluto in Leo generation to attack everything that the boomers have ever done. They are together in the belief that the boomers were a bad crop and that what happened in 1960s was a fluke; and it must be very disturbing for them to see the contemporary upheavals. Quite simply they need to study astrology. Scorpio is capable of everything of which Leo is capable, and in matter of revolts against corruption and tyranny it is the Scorpio that would be expected to do the greatest heavy lifting.

Most boomers went into themselves and, as some say, "sold out"; but I do not see this generation taking that path. Certainly many of them will want to have families and children, and certainly many will want to make money; but I expect their intense and passionate character to continue in working to affectuate change even after they have settled down. A skillful Scorpio smells corruption from miles away and has the intense focus to fight it. And at this point in history there is a great need for fighting corruption - in courts, in churches, in communities, in families, in societies, and in any number of governments in the world.

While the baby boom rebellion was done under the banner of love, today's Pluto in Scorpio revolts are done in the name of justice, truth, transparency and freedom. And that makes them more focused than the "60s generation." These people are out there to implement change, and they will be willing to live or die for it. They are agents of change by nature.

The good news for everyone else is that these people also have high intelligence, and they are not likely to fall for wrongful analysis and wrongful solutions. Most of these people have an inner sense of what's workable and what isn't, that most hippies did not have. There is less naivete in this generation and less propensity to fall for con artists. Instead there is a strong sense of what is justice and a stronger sense of what is right.

We are due for continued upheaval, but most of this upheaval will have positive outcome. It is the corrupt that have the most to fear from it, and it is the honest people that have the most to gain. The job of the Scorpio is ungrateful, but it is necessary. And we are seeing this play out in the world even as we speak.

the transiting Uranus/Pluto square occurring this month.

Not true. Justice, truth, and freedom were huge concerns at the time.
"Transparency" wasn't a word used much, but corruption was rampant
(Richard Nixon et al), and the desire to end it was also huge.

That wasn't my experience. The whole human potential/alternative
studies movement was rekindled in a massive way in the 60s, including
renewed interest in astrology.

People were looking for options. There hadn't been many up until that
point. If there was confusion, it was from the number of options that
started to open up. The focus was on the idea that there WERE now
going to be more options than were previously available.

I'd say there's more cynicism and narcissism, but I'm not sure that
equates to less naiveté.

The wholesale erosion of privacy and other rights is happening on
their watch. This was something that would have caused - and did cause
- massive riots by the same age group in the 60s. The freedoms some
people fought and died for in the streets in the 60s are now being
sacrificed to the fear of terrorism as promulgated by the Dick Cheneys
of the world. And this generation is buying into that fear.

I think you are both right to varying degrees.

(Although Pluto's irregular cycle through signs might be better
characterised as sub-generational, especially when a sign transit
lasts only about 13 years? The variation is about 11-30 years).

A more comprehensive view would include postive-neutral-negative
tendencies, perhaps with evolutionary background & prospects that
emerge from dualistic battles via syntheses and transcendance. But
for sure it serves well not to ignore the negatives -- for which Pluto
(and e/g Scorpio.. not to mention Capricorn..) is famous. This is
what Pluto does: it brings negatives to the surface, and many are
those who succumb to the Dark Forces, unknowingly or not quite.

(Those Guy Fox masks of Anonymous avengers are mass produced
by the very corporate forces (Time-Warner) against which they rail.
One does not defeat tarbabies or quicksand by angry engagement or
struggle, and that's how Plutonics often manifest).

Immediate prospects are not good. We're on a downer for the next
dozen years or so according to several astro measures and combined
cyclic effects (Barbault), so negatives need to be acknowledged,
considered & understood. The third and mid square of the current
fivefold Ura-Plu square on May 20 will likely be crucial.

No, Scorpio's more about exposing secrets, getting revenge, and holding grudges.

More? Than justice, truth, etc.? I see both positions or motivations
in action, and I don't know how to tell which is dominant. Maybe some
loose correlation is whether or not we destroy life as we know it. By
that measure, we're at least 51% positive.

I am sure it was. What I find hard to grasp is why many of the same people who hated Richard Nixon went for Ronald Reagan, who was much further to the right.

Yes.

I think it's important that your people write their story. There's been vast amounts of disinformation about you, and all sorts of people have been believing it, including many people who shouldn't have been expected to believe it.

Funny you mention narcissism, your generation is thought of as being narcissistic. Cynicism, yes. I've had to argue in a number of situation that cynicism is not the same thing as intelligence, and that there are just as many dumb cynics as there are dumb idealists.

I've had involvement with a number of people who are fighting this. And yes, it is important that people understand things of this nature.

And as a Scorpio I say hurrah.
As a Scorpio I think you are looking at Scorpio with rose-colored glasses and ignoring all the bad parts.

For example, you note Scorpio's can "smell corruption" a mile away. This is true, but it's because Scorpio's have the potential to be the darkest, smelliest, most corrupt of them all and so are better able to recognize their own kind.

Yes, they are experts at ferreting out your deepest, darkest secrets, but that is because they have so many deep, dark secrets of their own.

Yes, they can be the most intensely loving people of them all, but make one slip that love will jump to hate in a heartbeat.

Yes, they will defend a person or an idea to the death if they believe in it, but the moment they loose that belief they will become the assassin that kills in the dark that destroys that very same person or belief.

A better view of Scorpio (and yes, this is, of course, only my opinion) is that it is *extreme* in all things. Extreme in love. Extreme in hate. Extreme in virtues. Extreme in corruptions. There is no in between for a Scorpio. They either love you or they hate you.

In general I agree with this, except for that last part. Scorpios can
be indifferent, sometimes intensely indifferent, about people and/or
things.

I don't think of the sign Pluto inhabits as particularly important in regards to generational influence. Remember that with Pluto, we are talking about the subconscious. This is Scorpio, which means personal (rather than universal) spiritual transformation. I think of Pluto as a very, very personal experience, and it's sign placement possibly the least-important of details regarding what it has to teach us. House placement and aspects will give us a plethora of information on our personal, spiritual transformation.
