Lodging a convention

I once noted an anecdote about an astrologer who walked in cold to a hotel, and asked about lodging a convention there on specified dates. The manager said they were already booked, but the morning's mail was on his desk and the cancellation for those dates was among the mail.

I belong to a national organization whose annual gathering through two summer weekends has recently suffered a loss of accoomodation because their booked hotel in St. Louis has closed or will be closing before then. Other hotels apparently do not offer comparable accommodations or are not available at a comparable time of the summer.

I have no part in making arrangements. I read about it in a members' forum.

Sorry, been forgetting all about this newsgroup for months!
Not sure I quite understand what you're getting at. Unfortunate about the
St. Louis hotel, though.
